Welcome to our Site!

The Gulf Coast Harpers Association is a chapter of the International Society of Folk Harpers and Craftsmen (ISFHC). Our chapter is an educational support group sponsoring 2 scholarships to the Houston Summer Harp Festival, providing the 5th/6th grade prize for the local Milligan Harp competition (see the Milligan Memorial Page), and contributing to the Gulf Coast Cruinniú for studies in Irish music.  The Gulf Coast Harpers is also a group of dedicated ensemble players, encouraging each other and the community (both young and old) by fostering ensemble playing in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.  Beginning 2023 there will be 4 Harp Circles per year held at Emerson Unitarian, a centrally located and welcoming venue.

Congratulations to Eva Rami, recipient of the Cynthia Cooper Scholarship, and to Avery Frier, recipient of the Louise Trotter Scholarship. These young harpists attended and performed at the Houston Summer Harp Festival this past week. We were privileged to see and hear them at yesterday’s concert. The Gulf Coast Harpers provide full scholarships to the Houston Summer Harp Festival in memory and honor of Louise Trotter and Cynthia Cooper.

The 2023 Milligan competition took place on Saturday, April 29th, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at Stephen F. Austin High School. The Gulf Coast Harpers provides the 5th and 6th grade prize money. Congratulations to:
1st – Wally Snow
2nd – Zara Subramanian
3rd – Aarav Kartik
